Alaska covers a large geographic area and includes many villages that are not on the road system. As such, the University of Alaska Fairbanks has been active in utilizing distance education. The School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences (SNRAS) has been engaged in distance education as it offers a degree concentration at its research station in Palmer, Alaska, located approximately 330 miles south of Fairbanks, and offers several additional graduate and undergraduate courses at Palmer and other locations around the state.
