The "German Textile Museum Krefeld" is one of the most important international collections of historically valuable textiles and clothing. Today the collection comprises over 30,000 objects from all parts of the world, from antiquity to the present day. The collection was created as a textile teaching and study collection for the further education of the technical and artistic employees of the Krefeld textile companies at the end of the 19th century. The city of Krefeld took over the collection as a municipal museum in 1936. In 1981 the museum moved into its own new house in Krefeld-Linn.
