The mbocayá palm (Acrocomia totai Mart.) is a traditionally used oil-producing palm from South America. The palm's fruits and their pulp and kernel oil constitute an important component of the diet of the native people. Fruits collected from wild palms have been processed for soap manufacturing in Paraguay since the beginning of the 20th century. Other parts of the plant are used for various purposes, from feeding animals to medicinal applications. In addition to the use of the oils in human nutrition and in the chemical and cosmetic industries, biodiesel can be produced from mbocayá palm oils.
