Educación intercultural en centros educativos con alta diversidad cultural en Cataluña (España)

The educational system in Catalonia (Spain) has experienced a notable increase in the number of students of foreign origin, especially from the years 2000 onwards, which has led to the gradual incorporation of greater recognition of cultural diversity in speeches, policies, official documents and practices. Therefore, the study presented here focuses on the schools with a high presence of this student body (defined by more than 50%). Based on an extensive survey of school representatives and an ethnography, the actions that they carry out in the face of growing cultural diversity, what skills they believe students need to interact in it and how they define intercultural education are defined. The results show that students of foreign origin are unevenly distributed in schools and according to ownership (public/private), that there are still doubts as to what should be achieved with intercultural education and that action is taken more generally, in line with school documentation, than specifically.El sistema educativo de Cataluña (España) ha experimentado un incremento notable del alumnado de origen extranjero, especialmente a partir de los años 2000, que ha comportado la incorporación paulatina del mayor reconocimiento de la diversidad cultural en los discursos, las políticas, los documentos oficiales y en las prácticas. Por ello, el estudio que se presenta se centra en los centros con alta presencia de este alumnado (definido por más del 50%). A partir de una amplia encuesta a representantes de centros escolares y de una etnografía se definen las acciones que realizan ante la diversidad cultural creciente, qué habilidades creen que necesitan los alumnos para interactuar en ella y cómo definen la educación intercultural. Los resultados apuntan que el alumnado de origen extranjero está distribuido de forma desigual en centros y en función de la titularidad (público/privado), que aún existen dudas en qué se debe conseguir con la educación intercultural y que se actúa de forma más general, en línea a la documentación de los centros, que de forma específica
