STUDENT’S DIFFICULTIES IN LEARNING VOCABULARY AT SEVENTH GRADE IN MTS N 2 BANYUWANGI

Vocabulary is one of the most important components of English. Vocabulary learning takes an important role in mastering the four basic skills of English. As a foreign language, students are not familiar with English. Although they have learned English from elementary school, they still get many difficulties in learning this language. A classroom will be the only place for many students to practice their English. They believe English is a very difficult subject because of some reasons. One of the reasons is that it is difficult to remembering new words. It happens because students must adopt the new pronunciation and meaning of the word. This research has two research problems, those are: (1) What are the difficulties in learning vocabulary at seventh grade in MTSN 2 Banyuwangi? (2) What are the students’ solutions in learning vocabularies at seventh grade in MTSN 2 Banyuwangi. The research design used in this research was descriptive qualitative because this research results the descriptive data in the form of written or picture data from the subjects of the research being observed. This research used the seven grade students in MTS N 2 Banyuwangi as the object. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found three factors that make student faced difficulties. Those are; spelling, words meaning and using words appropriately. Furthermore, the difficulties can be caused by many factors. They are motivation in vocabulary learning, the students’ talent in language, the students’ interest in vocabulary learning, and the students’ experience in vocabulary master
