Modern coating techniques based on nanotechnology enable development, tailoring and characterisation of new coating systems which provide improved anti-soiling properties to different substrate materials. Coated products in which nanotechnology and sol-gel technique have been applied to wood and wood composite materials to improve hydrophobic and oleophobic properties. Selected coating systems were consisted of polymeric network and ceramic compounds. The improved anti-soiling property of the coatings was due to the increased oleophobicity and hydrophobicity
