Within the European Project NERIES, sponsored by the European Commission in the frame of the Specific Programme "Structuring the European Research Area", the NA4 module is devoted to establish a distributed archive of historical earthquake. NA4 objectives are to establish the required tools leading to the compilation of a comprehensive, digital macroseismic intensity database for the largest European earthquakes (with magnitude >=5.8 at least) and a validated and homogeneous European parametric earthquake catalogue for M>=5, to serve as an authoritative reference for users involved in the assessment of seismic hazard and risk.
