This article describes how principles from neuroscience can be used to inform, guide and develop psychotherapy. Such a "neuropsychotherapeutic approach" has been put forward by various authors. In this papers, the current authors develop the notion of "representational space" and illustrate how this can be applied to trauma. Recent cases of trauma resurfacing in elderly clients are used as illustration. Finally, the paper argues that neuroscience can both inform psychotherapeutic practice as well as guide future research
