California had approximately 4,037,000 people with diabetes in 2017 (American Diabetes Association [ADA], 2018). Prolonged and uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) can lead to several comorbidities, such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular sequela (Molinaro & Dauscher, 2017). The increased death rate and comorbidities led to an exploring whether adult patients with T2DM could utilize diabetes self-management education (DSME) with the use of a mobile application to reduce daily blood sugar levels significantly compared to no self-management education within six weeks.
