A psycho-educational program on sexual assault for college-age women: A grant proposal

With an estimated 50% of all college-age women having experienced some form of sexual assault; and 50% of these women being victims of attempted or completed rapes, sexual assault towards women continues to be a major public health issue across the United States. The impact of rape can be extremely devastating and negatively affect the mental and/or physical health of the victim. With the definition of"sexual assault" being extremely narrow, women do not have a clear understanding of what sexual assault is and are continuously at risk of being victimized or re-victimized. This proposed psycho-educational program consists of educational courses that will serve as a preventative tool for college-age women. The Josephine S. Gumbiner Foundation was selected as the funding source, and the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Long Beach, California, will be the host agency for the proposed program
