The purpose of this project was to explore the writer's experience with multiple sclerosis (MS) in a personal narrative. The narrative conveys her reflections and feelings about her experience in learning to live with an MS diagnosis as a Mexican American female. The writer illustrates the power that positive thinking has on creating a healthier adjustment to a chronic illness such as MS. A comprehensive literature review was conducted with a focus on chronic illness, MS, coping behaviors, and Latino cultural factors. This project has relevance to and implications for social work, as it examines how minorities cope with such chronic illnesses and advocates for more effective interventions that can be utilized to empower clients
