Overrepresentation of American Indian youth in foster care: A grant proposal

The purpose of this project was to create a program, identify potential grant funding sources, and then write a grant to fund an Intensive Family Reunification Services (IFRS) program to reduce the number of American Indian youth in foster care, in South Dakota, through The Collaborative Hocoka agency. A broad literature review was completed, resulting in increased knowledge concerning the problem of overrepresentation among American Indian youth and the foster care system. The literature review provided information regarding evidence-based IFRS programs, which the grant writer used to develop a best-practices program. An extensive search for potential funding sources through the Internet as well as The Long Beach Library, resulted in the selection of The Pew Charitable Trusts Foundation, as the most appropriate funding source for this specific project. A grant was then written to fund an Intensive Family Reunification Services program at The Collaborative Hocoka agency, located in South Dakota
