Italian Folk Music: Regional Differences of Language, Style, and Instrumentation Caused by Invasion and Migration

The various invasions of Italy throughout its history have left their mark through language and music, these cultural influences are expressed in the folk music of Italy. In this paper, the country and its regional differences in folk music resulting from the invasion and migration of surrounding cultures, will be explored. Art music of Italy have been a historical driving force in the history of western musicological study, so much so that it overshadows interest in Italian folk music. However, Italian folk music expresses various peoples of Italy and reflects the vast of the history of the Italian people
