A Support Group for Adolescent Birthmothers Post-Voluntary Adoption Placement: A Grant Proposal

Female adolescents who experience unexpected teenage pregnancy and place a child for adoption undergo significant grief and loss throughout their lifetime. Literature, though limited and dated yet remaining relevant, reveals that birthmothers, adolescents, in particular, are likely to suffer from depression, isolation and have difficulties lasting beyond initial adoption placement. As voluntary adoption placement is not socially acknowledged, birthmothers are in great need of social support from peers who have similar experiences. The goal of this project is to develop a grant proposal in efforts to fund a support group for adolescent birthmothers who have placed a child for adoption. This program is designed to provide peer and professional guidance based on evidence-based curriculums to empower young birthmothers to acknowledge their loss and grieve in a healthy environment. Actual submission and funding of the grant are not required for the completion of the project
