Moore’s law is at its frontier to further increase transistor number on square cm of a chip. Memristor, claimed to be a fourth fundamental electronic component, is the best solution for continuing the trend for more computation on smaller chip area. Memristor, a component discovered in 2008 by HP Labs is described in this thesis along with some applications. The Memristor’s fundamental concepts are demonstrated in MATLAB as well as the memristor’s various models, the single bit RAM design, and crossbar architecture using Simulink. A new method of using memristor as logic gates, along with the simulation results and an application of memristor as synapse is also described.
