The Centaur is a chimeric being, which at first sight might cause some dismay and dis-gust. It is the result of a punishment, before the insolence (Hybris) of a mere mortal, Ixion, in relation to the goddess Hera, and ultimately, the King of the Gods, Zeus. The ancient texts that have come down to us today, by authors such as Homer, Ovid and Hesiod tell us stories about the origin of the universe, gods, humans, monstrous creatures, heroes and phenomena outside the scope of rational and scientific understanding of man.
