This edited volume includes 17 articles from renowned scholars in different subfields of Ottoman history. The main concept of this volume is the issue of transformations which the Ottoman Empire experienced from the earlier centuries until its demise. More concretely, three main periods of transformation, from a frontier principality to a bureaucratic empire (1400-1500), from a centralized power to a decentralized order (1600-1700), and the encounter with modernity (1750-1900), will be focused on. In this context, the volume will discuss subjects related to politics, law, economy, arts, and religion
