The 109 porphyry Cu deposit in the western Tianshan orogenic belt, NW China, is hosted in albite porphyry. The albite porphyry is metaluminous to peraluminous and alkaline in terms of composition, and has an affinity of A-type granite, and is considered to have formed in an extensional tectonic setting. Zircon grains from the albite porphyry yielded a weighted mean U-238/Pb-206 age of 300 +/- 4 Ma (95% confidence) by Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). The age can be considered to be the crystallization age of the 109 albite porphyry. The zircon grains have Ce4+/Ce3+ ranging from 10.8 to 50.5.
