Closed areas are becoming more and more important for fisheries management. Closed areas benefits for stock enhancement and biodiversity conservation are known but, in most countries, surface closed to fisheries is up to the moment too small. While it has been proposed to protect 10% of the marine environment for biodiversity objectives, several studies point that, for fisheries enhancement, it will be necessary to close at least 20% of marine environment to fisheries.
