The nature of immigration policy toward Haitians in southern Florida is largely responsible for the nature of their participation in the labor market. As individuals with an ambiguous status in the United States they are forced to work for low wages on the fringes of the formal sector of the economy or in Miami\u27s growing informal sector. Most notably an example of generative economic activity is the growth of Little Haiti in Miami and the support it provides its residents
