Los resúmenes de artículos de revistas especializadas: ¿género problemático?

This essay discusses some hypotheses and other important issues of research journal abstracts as key genres of the academic prose. Aspects of the relationship between language, discourse, abstracts and research are dealt with. A bibliographic and documentary analysis of what it usually means to write a good abstract is presented. We focus our emphasis on three hypotheses that may help explain the character of such genres: 1) hypotheses of specialization, 2) hypothesis of brevity and 3) hypothesis of representation, and also on the need to understand such genres from a socio-historical perspective. Then, by means of some exemplars of journal abstracts we analyze their structure as found in journals from science, humanities and social sciences and also in terms of what could be considered an ideal structure. It is concluded that the notion of a good abstract may be related not only to scientific or epistemological traditions, but also to the type of article privileged, among other reasons. It is concluded that this genre still remains often problematic.Este ensayo discute algunas hipótesis y aspectos claves de un importante género de la prosa académica, el resumen de artículo de revista. Abordaremos componentes de la relación entre el lenguaje, el discurso, los resúmenes y la investigación. Se presentará un análisis bibliográfico sobre lo que se considera escribir un buen resumen para una revista. Esto se hará sobre la base de tres hipótesis que ayudan a explicar el carácter de estos géneros: 1) hipótesis de especialización, 2) hipótesis de brevedad y 3) hipótesis de representación, así como la necesidad de conocer tales textos desde una perspectiva socio-histórica. Se examinan ejemplares de este género en varias disciplinas, se aborda la estructura que pueden mostrar en revistas de ciencias, de humanidades y de ciencias sociales, más lo que podría considerarse una estructura ideal. Se concluye con que la idea de buen resumen puede relacionarse con tradiciones científicas y epistemológicas, pero también con el tipo de trabajo que se privilegie, entre otras razones.
