Focusing on theories and methodologies around ‘contact zones’ and intercultural engagement and translation, this discussion critically reflects on the concepts and processes that shape and define the research, writing and curating of art in an intercultural context. Drawing on case-studies from my book, 'Imagining Taiwan: the role of art in Taiwan’s quest for identity' (Brill, 2018) and several touring exhibitions from Taiwan which I curated, the paper critically analyses the intellectual and experiential aspects of intercultural engagement and translation through the production, display and reception of Taiwan art, nationally and internationally
