The host microbiota has emerged a third player in interactions between hosts and viral pathogens. This opens new possibilities to use different tools to modulate the intestinal microbial composition, aimed at reducing the risk of or treating viral enteric infections.Work at laboratories of J.R-D. and V.M. was funded by Spanish projects (RYC-2013-12442, AGL2014-52996-C2-2-R, and AGL2015-68920-R, respectively).
