In the last millions of years, the convergence of these plates has produced the progressive narrowing and closing of the sea anda complex structure. At present, Eurasia and Africa continental collision favors the development and activity of faults with associated crustal earthquakes, in addition to intermediate and deep seismicity related to subduction processes. A band of significant seismicity and tectonic activity is located in the central and eastern part, extending from Campo de Dalías to Alhucemas region.
