Genre: Legend/Ancestor history. Title: Cua kabe. Lakimosa Bangu, from kampong, and adat domain, Woto, tells a tale about legendary ancestors, Cua kabe. 'Kabe' means to wave and Cua Kabe waved his hands and Buginese ships came to a standstill at sea or were drawn to the shore where they were plundered, and the crew killed. Bangu also tells of Cua's ancestors and a descendant who also had paranormal abilities. The descendants of a Bugis victim, a woman, still live on the island. Recorded with an AT2020 mic in the home of Lakimosa Bangu, kampong Woto, early afternoon 5 Feb 2015, on my first visit to Woto. I came with Petrus Tanga whom I had talked to and recorded a few days earlier. We were about a dozen people chatting outside for a couple of hours, getting to know each other, and waiting for lakimosa Bangu to recover from a night of ritual wake where the palm gin flowed.
