Mediterranean mountains are known for their high rate of endemism. The summits of Basse Provence (S-E France) are sometimes dominated by the thorny cushion plant Genista lobelii DC. Taxonomic review shows that this species should be considered as an endemic of Basse Provence. Distribution map, floristic description and ecological review of G. lobelii populations in south eastern France, supported by numerical classification and ordination, are presented.
