The utilization of annual ring-width series from cedars (Cedrus atlantica) belonging to nine planted populations in south-east France shows that a variable radial growth is subjected to climatic fluctuations (Precipitation and Temperatures) in relation with altitude and lithology. The capacity of the cambium to record climatic variations during the whole May-September period shows that it remains active during summer water-stress periods.
