This contribution presents the main results of a study conducted on the use of wood planks as floorings in Brussels between the late 16th and 19th centuries. The dataset of ten sites was examined via an in situ archaeological study and dendrological and dendrochronological analyses. The floorings were documented with respect to the choice of wood species utilised, primarily Scots pine and poplar, cutting modes and shaping of the planks, and assemblage techniques for the floorings These have enabled the establishment of a typochronology whose variants reflect the desire of the builder to increase the resistance of the structures, a development that does not appear in ancient treatises.
