International audienceThis paper explores a contemporary issue, the privatization of access to coastal and maritime environmental commons. To that end, it is based on a territorialized case study, which focuses on two Finnic communities in the western Leningrad oblast (Russia): the Votes and the Izhorians. These communities, which are experiencing a strong demographic decline, have been resisting and adapting to the upheavals that have been affecting their social-ecological system for the past 100 years, but which have been exacerbated "only" over the past half-century.
