The recent earthquake that in 2009 hit the territory of L'Aquila has brought out the devastated reality of small towns of the hinterland of the Abruzzi. The inland foothill who had already suffered from the second half of the 19th century, with the decline of transhumance, a progressive depopulation, today sees the total abandon of those small towns. Ghost houses and fragments of walls dot the land leaving a sense of desolation and despair in those who pass through. On the other hand, suddenly the same lands in places never before populated teem with life and new homes. On the one hand there are Ghost Town, on the other the new towns.
