Crime is universal in any population, but for forensic anthologists, a more focused understanding of victim characteristics may be useful during a criminal investigation. Past studies correlated violent crimes, victim characteristics, and areas where crimes are committed, but this project will examine the relationship between the victim’s gender and age and the type of violent crime committed against them. Datasets from the US Census Bureau and criminal records from Californian police departments will be compared in order to examine the relationship between victim characteristics and the type of violent crime committed.
