[Extract] Knowledge of growth and development is essential for nurses if they are to identify developmental needs and problems. This chapter applies the concepts of growth and development introduced in Chapter 21 to the prenatal period and to the neonate, infant, toddler, preschooler, school-age child and adolescent. Each developmental stage includes physical, psychosocial, cognitive, moral and spiritual aspects and is viewed using person-centred principles of care.
