PURPOSE: To correlate in vivo confocal microscopy and impression cytology features of the corneal surface epithelia in patients with clinical features of partial or total limbal stem cell deficiency and to examine the limbal morphology. DESIGN: Prospective case-control observational study. METHODS: Twenty eyes of 17 consecutive patients (mean age 53.9 ± 9.2 years) presenting with clinical suspect of limbal stem cell deficiency and 10 eyes of 10 healthy control subjects were enrolled.
