Tratamentos para superação de dormência em sementes de Enterolobium contortisiliquum, Vell., Morong

The seeds of the species Enterolobium contortisiliquum, popularly known as tamboril, have high dormancy level, resulting in low levels of germination, which complicates the production of seedlings. This study aimed to test the efficiency of chemical scarification in boiling water to overcome integumentary dormancy of tamboril seeds, using the following treatments: immersion of seeds in sulfuric acid (96% PA) for 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes, followed by wash in running water for 10 min; and immersion in boiling water (≅100 °C) for 2, 4 min and until cooling. The seeds were placed to germinate in paper rolls, Germitest® type, and incubated at BOD, 27oC and photoperiod of 12/12 (day and night). The germination percentage and the index of germination speed (ISG) were evaluated. The results allowed to infer that the immersion of seeds in sulfuric acid for 15, 30, 45 and 60 min, as well as in boiling water until cooling, were the treatments that presented highest efficiency in overcoming dormancy of tamboril seeds. However, the treatment in boiling water until cooling is recommended, taking into consideration the operational facility and cost- benefit ratio.As sementes da espécie Enterolobium contortisiliquum, popularmente conhecida como tamboril, apresentam alto grau de dormência, resultando em baixos níveis de germinação, o que dificulta a produção de mudas. Este trabalho teve como objetivo testar a eficiência da escarificação química e em água fervente para superação da dormência tegumentar das sementes de tamboril, utilizando-se os seguintes tratamentos: imersão das sementes em ácido sulfúrico (96% PA) por 15, 30, 45 e 60 min, seguidos por lavagem em água corrente por 10 min; e imersão em água fervente (≅100 °C) por 2, 4 min e até o resfriamento. As sementes foram colocadas para germinar em rolos de papel tipo Germitest® e incubadas em BOD, a 27 °C e fotoperíodo de 12/12 (dia e noite). Avaliou-se a porcentagem de germinação e o índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG). Os resultados permitiram inferir que a imersão das sementes em ácido sulfúrico por 15, 30, 45 e 60 min, bem como em água fervente até o resfriamento, foram os tratamentos que apresentaram maior eficiência na superação da dormência de sementes de tamboril. Todavia, recomenda-se o tratamento em água fervente até o resfriamento, levando-se em consideração a facilidade operacional e a relação custo/benefício
