The seeds of the species Enterolobium contortisiliquum, popularly known as tamboril, have high dormancy level, resulting in low levels of germination, which complicates the production of seedlings. This study aimed to test the efficiency of chemical scarification in boiling water to overcome integumentary dormancy of tamboril seeds, using the following treatments: immersion of seeds in sulfuric acid (96% PA) for 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes, followed by wash in running water for 10 min; and immersion in boiling water (≅100 °C) for 2, 4 min and until cooling.
