[Extract] In this chapter, we reflect on our experiences undertaking risk research as part of a multi- national, multi-disciplinary team of scholars and researchers exploring the impacts and responses to the Boxing Day 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami in Thailand. the original, exploratory research was funded by the US National Science Foundation and sought to investigate how local people (households and individuals), groups (NGOs and civil society organisations), and government agencies responded to the tsunami, and the patterns of impact, resilience and recovery that ensued (see below for further details)
