In this chapter, we compare the responses of female and male university students using transit in four cities on four continents: Melbourne, Australia; Tokyo/Kanagawa, Japan; Milan, Italy; and Rio Claro, Brazil. We examine rates of self-reported sexual harassment and assault by gender, compare bystander responses, and measure the extent to which these experiences are reported to police and transit authorities
