The AIDS problem in the community doesn't end when the sufferer dies. The children left behind suffer badly too: loosing a parent to AIDS, and the way society may treat them because of this are heavy blows to bear. The future prospects of these children are determined in the periods prior to and following the death of a parent. We should not write off such a child, however grim the situation may seem, as just another orphan, because he or she will be suffering from pressures and influences completely different from those of other orphans and these pressures often doom these children to a life of depression, hopelessness and perhaps serious psychological damage and problems when they themselves become adults and parents.
