[Extract] It may have escaped the attention of those outside Queensland, but this state celebrated a special anniversary in 2009. It was on 10 December 1859 that Queensland separated from the colony of New South Wales. Celebrations for 150 years of independence were in order and, with the assistance of funding from Q150 (the body established by the Queensland Government to organise and administer the year-long event), projects of all descriptions were undertaken. One commendable enterprise to emerge from Q150 is the informative collection of writings Hibiscus and Ti-Tree: Women in Queensland, edited by Carole Ferrier and Deborah Jordan
