[Extract] The Cajamarca region of northern Peru hosts a number of significant Tertiary hydrothermal deposits, including the world class Late Miocene Yanacocha high sulphidation Au deposit and the Early-Mid Miocene Au-rich Minas Conga and Cerro Corona porphyry deposits. Based on structural, geochemical and geochronological data, it is argued that these deposits formed from a combination of tectonic and magmatic processes within an evolving magmatic arc throughout Tertiary times
