The relationship between serum neopterin levels and the severity of coronary artery disease assessed by the gensini score in stable coronary artery disease patients

Neopterin, insan monosit ve makrofajlarının interferon-y (IFN-y) ile uyarılması sonucu salınan bir pteridindir. Serumda neopterin seviyelerinin belirlenmesi in vivo hücresel immünitenin aktivasyonunun derecesi hakkında fikir vermektedir. Koroner arter hastalığı etyopatogenezinde enflamasyon ve immünitenin anahtar rol oynadığı bilinmektedir. Bu noktadan yola çıkarak daha önceki çalışmalarda neopterin seviyelerinin koroner arter hastalıklarının belirlenmesinde öncü madde olabileceği bildirilmiştir. Çalışmamızda herhangi bir nedenle koroner anjiografi endikasyonu almış ve çalışmaya uygun olan stabil koroner arter hastalarında koroner arter hastalığının ciddiyeti gensini skoru ile hesap edilerek, koroner arter hastalığının ciddiyeti ile serumdaki neopterin düzeyleri arasındaki ilişki saptanmaya çalışıldı.40 olgunun dahil edildiği çalışmada koroner anjiografi işlemi öncesi tüm hastalardan serum neopterin seviyesi ölçümü için venöz kan örneği alındı ve koroner anjiografi sonuçları gensini skorlama sistemine uygun şekilde skorlandı.Sonuç olarak, neopterin düzeyleri ile gensini skorları arasında korelasyon izlendi (p=0,010, p(rho)= 0,401). Çalışmamızda ayrıca hasta grubunun yaşı ve gensini skoru arasında da korelasyon izlendi (p= 0,016, p(rho)= 0,380).Çalışma örneklemi az da olsa bu çalışma, serum neopterin düzeylerinin koroner arter hastalığını öngörmek için uygun bir parametre olduğunu gösteren diğer çalışmalara destek olacak niteliktedir.Neopterin is a pteridin derivate that is released from the human monocyte and macrophages by the stimulation of the interferon-y. Determination of serum neopterin levels gives an idea about the degree of activation of cellular immunity in vivo. It is well known that inflammation and immunity plays a key role in pathogenesis of coronary artery disease. From this viewpoint, in previous studies it is reported that neopterin levels may be a predictor of determining the severity of coronary artery disease. Our study population was consisted of the stable coronary artery disease patients who are chosen for coronary angiography for any reason and are suitable for the study and we aimed to investigate relationship between the severity of coronary artery disease calculated by the gensini scoring system and serum neopterin levels.40 patients were included in the study and before the coronary angiography procedure, blood samples were taken for the measurement of serum neopterin level and the results of the coronary angiography was scored according to the gensini scoring system.In conclusion, neopterin levels were correlated with the gensini scores (p=0,010, p(rho)= 0,401) and a correlation between the age of patient population and gensini score was also observed in the study (p= 0,016, p(rho)= 0,380).Sanovel İla
