The Psychological Effects of Social Media Activity on the Mental State and Self-Esteem of Users

People understand that there are both positive and negative effects from using social media, but it is important to inform people how these effects come about and how they can then be educated about combating these effects. However, there is solid evidence that there is a correlation between the control that social media has over lives and the mental ramifications that unconsciously come with it. That is not to say that there are not extreme positives that come with this new technology, but users must understand the signs of psychological wear and tear by means of media use. In addition to identifying the two-sided effects that come with social networking sites, it is imperative that we suggest solutions and how we, as a society, can work to implement techniques within educational curricula, starting at a young age, before it is too late
