What remains of Raffaele Laporta’s thought and work today?Almost twenty years after the death of the educator from Pescara, his name has fallen into oblivion and remains virtually unknown among the younger generations of those studying pedagogy. After only a few years, his reflections and theoretical-operational intuitions seem distant, if not forgotten. Even his most important works and his masterly text L’assoluto pedagogico (1996) are hardly ever cited. This article focuses on the link between education, freedom and learning, within the framework of a reflection situated at the crossroads where pedagogy and biology meet. It aims to present Laporta’s thought in a new light, and to investigate some fundamental issues that characterize the most exquisitely theoretical, epistemological, formal side of Italian secular-progressive pedagogy; a further objective is to respond to issues regarding current pedagogical knowledge and its most pressing educational challenges.Cosa rimane oggi del pensiero e dell’opera di Raffaele Laporta?A quasi un ventennio, ormai, dalla scomparsa del pedagogista abruzzese, il suo nome è caduto nell’oblio ed è pressoché taciuto nella memoria delle giovani generazioni che studiano pedagogia. A distanza di pochi anni, appaiono già lontane, se non dimenticate, le sue riflessioni e intuizioni teoriche-operative. Anche le sue opere più importanti e il suo magistrale testo L’assoluto pedagogico (1996) sono a stento citati. L’articolo, ponendo l’attenzione sul nesso educazione-libertà-apprendimento, nel quadro di una riflessione situata al crocevia di pedagogia e biologia, intende restituire nuova luce al pensiero laportiano, sia per interrogarci su alcune questioni di fondo, ancora aperte, che caratterizzano la pedagogia laico-progressista italiana nel suo volto più squisitamente teoretico, epistemologico, formale; sia per rispondere ad alcune istanze che continuano ad interpellare la coscienza pedagogica attuale nelle sue più cogenti sfide educative
