"This report seeks to trace the systematization of the study of linguistics. It will briefly outline the treatment of languages from antiquity through medieval times, advances made in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and important linguistic scholars in those periods. As its primary focus is the systematization of linguistics, it will then conduct a more in-depth examination of the linguistic achievements of the nineteenth century. The report will conclude with the Neogrammarian hypothesis of the late nineteenth century"--Leaf iii.Germanic Studie
