A finite element method for the solution of a coupled electromagnetic and mechanical problem is presented. A typical problem that of a fast discharging homopolar machine, is described. The weak form of the initial value problem is derived from Maxwell's equations using Galerkin projective technique. The finite element equations are· derived. An algorithm for solving the given problem is given along with representative results.Center for Electromechanic
