The optimal power flow problem has been solved for a power system, which includes wind power as an additional generation input under variable wind conditions. Two wind generator options have been considered in this study; fixed speed induction generator (FSIG) and the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). The optimization has been carried out for both loss minimization and cost minimization under variable wind conditions. The simulations have been performed on various sizes of wind farms attached to the IEEE-14 bus and IEEE-30 bus systems using DIgSILENT Power Factory simulation software.
