STUDY OF NEUTRAL CURRENT DISTRIBUTIONS IN ANTINEUTRINO-PROTON, NEUTRINO-PROTON INTERACTIONS USING THE FERMILAB BROAD BAND ANTINEUTRINO BEAM

A study of the mixed antineutrino and neutrino neutral current sample for a visible momenta range from 5 to 150 GeV/c has been made. Details of the experiment and analytical processes are given. The data were obtained by exposing the Fermi National Accelerator hydrogen filled 15\u27 bubble chamber to a wide band antineutrino beam. The beam was determined to have a 17% contamination from neutrinos. Fitting the U distributions of the neutral current cross section to a parmaterization of the Quark/Parton model results in an independent measurement of the sin with a value of 0.13 (+OR-) 0.08. Using the published neutrino neutral to charged current ratio of 0.51 (+OR-) 0.04 produces an antineutrino neutral to charged current ratio of 0.36 (+OR-) 0.04. This corresponds to a sin(\u272)(theta)(,w) of 0.19 (+OR-) 0.04. These results are found to be in agreement with the world average of data from electron and neutrino experiments with targets other than protons. Neutral current strange particle production was also analyzed. It was found that the neutral current sample was not sufficiently sensitive to strange particle production to produce a useful measurement
