From a mechanical point of view, human skin is a complex multilayer structure with viscoelastic, non-linear and anisotropic properties. The work presented in this thesis combines experimentation, modeling and the identification by inverse method, and is characterized by using a new extensometer device suitable for non-invasive mechanical measurements of in vivo skin. Load-displacement responses for different angular configurations, intensities and body locations were obtained in in vivo tests. Ex vivo tests were, however performed for comparison and validation.
