This article synthetises and discusses the various measures and potential determinants of competitiveness in the agricultural sector. Competitiveness is a broad concept and there is no definitive agreement on how to define it, nor how to measure it precisely. It is however acknowledged that measurement can be made according to two disciplines, namely the neoclassical economics, and the strategic management school. Two groups of determinants may influence farms’ competitiveness, namely determinants on which farms or firms have control, and determinants on which they have no control
