The thesis is devoted to mathematical modeling of hematopoiesis and blood diseases. It is based on the development of hybrid discrete continuous models and to their applications to investigate production of blood cell (hematopoiesis) and blood diseases such as lymphoma and myeloma. The first part of the thesis concerns production of blood cells in the bone marrow. We will mainly study production of red blood cells, erythropoiesis. In mammals erythropoiesis occurs in special structures, erythroblastic islands. Their functioning is determined by complex intracellular and extracellular regulations which include various cell types, hormones and growth factors.
