An optimal preview control method is applied to the automobile path following problem. The technique is first used to examine the straight-line regulatory driving task and results compared with similar experimental measurements. The method is further demonstrated by closed-loop-simulation of an automobile driver/vehicle system during transient lane-change maneuvers.
